The Centre for promotion of Audiovisual Culture (AVEK) distributes copyright remunerations to support the production of short films, documentaries and media art, as well as the international distribution of these works. These funds mostly originate from private copying remunerations. In fall 2007, AVEK distributed almost 1 million euros to support various audiovisual culture projects, and of this total, AVEK directed 431 558 euros for short films and documentaries.

Pia Andell is a documentary film director and producer. Her films have been featured and have received awards at many internationally renowned festivals, including IDFA, Prix Europa, BANFF and Nordisk Panorama. Currently Andell is working on her next film Leikki (Playing Adults), a creative documentary on adults and their relationship to play and playfulness. It depicts the forty-something generation in the rush hour of their lives - and it is not relaxed!

The film relies heavily on 8 mm film; it combines family footage with contemporary 8 mm material shot in the present time, comparing lives then and now. The structure of the film is that of a scientific study, a questionnaire to be precise, and it challenges us to think that perhaps we have gone too far in taking things seriously. Leikki will premier in spring 2008. Andell started working on the film in 2005, and for a documentary, three years is an average length for a project.

The funding for the film came from two sources: AVEK and Yleisradio, with additional funding from the EU MEDIA programme for the initial development of the film. Pia Andell's previous films include the internationally successful documentaries Hetket jotka jäivät (Y in Vyborg), and Pieni elokuva sisaruussuhteista (Sibling Relations).
